17-4 Cond A

17-4 Cond A (UNS S17400, EN 1.4542, Alloy 630), is a martensitic stainless steel containing 15-17.5% chromium (Cr), 3-5% nickel (Ni), and 3-5% copper (Cu). 17-4 is precipitation hardened (PH), a heat treatment process that increases its strength and hardness. 17-4 Condition A (Cond A) is the machinable solution treated (annealed) condition, heated to 1040 °C for 30 minutes and then cooled in air to 30 °C. Subsequently, 17-4 Cond A can be age hardened to achieve a desired hardness and strength. As with all martensitic stainless steels, 17-4 Cond A is magnetic. Our 17-4 material was melted, poured, and manufactured in Italy or USA, and meets ASTM specifications.
