416 (UNS S41600, EN 1.4005) is a martensitic stainless steel containing 12-14% chromium (Cr), making it corrosion resistant, but not as corrosion resistant as austenitic stainless steels. The addition of sulfur (S) enhances its machinability making it easier to cut and form compared to other stainless steel grades. Like all martensitic stainless steels, 416 is magnetic and can be hardened by heat treatment. Our 416 material was melted, poured, and manufactured in Italy, USA, or Taiwan, and meets ASTM specifications.
